Jackson County Early College

Application and Acceptance Process

Application and Acceptance Process

Are you ready to attend Jackson County Early College? Here’s the next steps.

  • Students need to complete the application at home, or during a recruitment event. Parents will complete a separate, optional, information section of the application.

The application is an online form that asks the following:

    • General demographic information
    • Recommender information
    • Questions that give you an opportunity to tell us why you would love being at JCEC.
  • Students will request a time to participate in an interview when completing the application. Only students with complete applications and meet basic requirements will be given an interview time.

Students participate in a group interview with five to ten students. During this time, JCEC teachers provide questions to the students that they can answer to share information about how they learn and what they expect from JCEC.

Prompts include questions about former experiences, educational focus, and why they would like to attend a community focused school.

  • Students will comolete a timed writing on the same night as the interview. The timed writing is a short snapshot of the student’s narrative writing and their completion of timed assignments.

  • All student responses, interview scores, writing scores are placed in a portfolio with all student records. These portfolios are used to determine placement of the candidates. The student selection committee uses all information gathered to make a decision.

Up to forty students are allowed in the cohort with ten additional students placed on a wait list.

  • After the entire process is complete, packets will be mailed to students who have been accepted. These packets include paperwork and the directions for the next steps.

In partnership with SCC, students and parents will receive paperwork to enroll both at JCEC and SCC.

Students will sign up for and complete the RISE placement test which determines English placement for SCC students. It’s quick but sometimes has to be completed during a school day in the spring semester before fall enrollment.

Students will be invited to information sessions and events to allow them to meet their peers and prepare for JCEC.

Students will also attend Freshman Bridge a couple days before school begins so that they can become familiar with required technology and the campus.
